The Annual Award

The panel (Robert Cameron, Peter Skelton, Stephen Hawkins) recommended that the Award be made to
Daniel Geiger of the Molecular Systematics Laboratory, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, California, for his PhD thesis 'A total evidence cladistic analysis of the Haliotidae' and associated papers. Dr. Geiger's thesis gives a comprehensive analysis of the family, suppressing many redundant names. It provides a phylogeographic analysis, and discusses the methodologies and philosophy of cladistics in context. It is beautifully illustrated, all species in the family being figured. Dr. Geiger gives an account of his findings and present research interests on page 12.
N.B. The new closing date for Annual Award nominations is 31st December.
